we're number one
I know, it's hard to believe that a one runway town is ranked number one, but Terminal 2 is newly renovated, and has many really good options for eating, including a Donut Bar, and also shopping.
It also offers some really nice views on take off, like this one of the Coronado Bay Bridge:

Not a bad airport. Rental cars off property were always a bit annoying but minorly so. Havent been out that way in a few years; used to come a lot for work out on Coronado. Nice drive over. A lot of great restaraunts but a burger place is the one I miss the most oddly enough (Slaters 50/50).

I have to admit, Slater's makes a mighty tasty burger.
Scott Slater was a San Diego State grad, but that Liberty Station location was not the first Slater's 50/50 - it was probably the second. (The first was in Anaheim.) I have a photo from there from 2011, and I haven't been back since - but only because it's not nearby. However, I did think they took a good idea too far when they put bacon in a milkshake.
Prior to 2011, Liberty Station was a nothing burger. Then the Corvette diner moved there from Hillcrest, and others followed, but still kind of a weird vibe in that general area.
From the airport, drive west, and make a right at the land ship.

Always be careful near land ships. One might run into the infamous land shark.
That is the place! Liberty station. I also enjoyed the vast beer selection with my burger. The bacon brownie, not so much.
Damn, now I am craving a burger and your breakfast quote is making me think it is a logical choice.
