september 2018 updates

Post: # 1871Post drib »

September 1 is a Saturday.

I'll run the process, on all three lines, but I expect that changes, if any, will not be until after Labor Day.

Thanks and a Question

Post: # 1874Post bodogbodog »

Thanks
First - thanks for this incredibly useful site and the wealth of information it provides and that is updated - I get a lot from it
Second - any thoughts to reinstating the email updates to alert users of fare changes after the updates are run?
I know you’re not looking to commercialise the site but I reckon there would be interst in paying for such a service we’re it to be offered
Thanks again for setting up and maintaining this great site

Thoughts, yes.

Reinstating, no.

Why don't you just let me know what cruises you booked, and I'll let you know when I see a fare change?

I also wanted to mention something about security certificates.

There are none on drib critic. I can add one, but there is a cost for that. If I ran a fee-based subscription service, I doubt that it would even earn enough to cover the cost of the security certificate.

Big Dog Foto, host of Roll Call and Fare Compare, doesn't really need a security certificate either - I don't collect any private personal data on either site. But Big Dog Foto is on a better server than drib critic (and better than bd-foto, which is essentially just photo storage) and it offered a free (limited) security certificate. So, if you want to access Roll Call and Fare Compare with a security certificate, simply use the https address, as in:

rollcall/farecompare.php

It's not really worth the added time to encrypt and decrypt your data, in my opinion, or else I would redirect all http traffic to https. But if it helps you sleep at night, use the link above.

september 3 updates

Post: # 1902Post drib »

There were 210 fare changes on 14 trips (6 Serenity, 8 Symphony) today. They are all in trips embarking in 2019. Mostly, it looks like the fares returned to their pre-July levels. However, these three cruises are at new lows:

rollcall/rollcall.php?trip=5722

rollcall/rollcall.php?trip=6211

rollcall/rollcall.php?trip=6283

Don't forget that the fare change date in the URL query string is obsolete. Instead, just change the Fare History selector to 2018.09.03 to see only trips with updates today.

rollcall/farecompare.php?line=crystal&ship=serenity

rollcall/farecompare.php?line=crystal&ship=symphony

I'll probably check again tomorrow. I only ran this as a spot-check today, and because there were a couple of hits, I ran the whole thing. There were no spot-check updates for Oceania and Regent, but I will run the whole process for them tomorrow too.

Today, there were 180 new fare updates across 12 trips, 4 Serenity and 8 Symphony.

They are all significant fare decreases - from 9% to 32% on a B1 - with jcalc unchecked - meaning comparing the current fare to he original fare. Check the jcalc checkbox if you want to compare the current fare to the prior fare.

Again, use the Fare History selector - this time set to 2018.09.05 - to see only these 12 trips.

rollcall/farecompare.php?line=crystal&ship=serenity

rollcall/farecompare.php?line=crystal&ship=symphony
