august 2021 updates

Post: # 3093Post drib »

I will do an update on the first - although the first business day of the month is the second - and I'm not expecting much in any event.

I marked all the Crystal 2022 world cruises as cancelled, so they won't update even if there are changes on the web site. (I also marked as cancelled all the segments up through disembarkation in Istanbul.)

It's all still academic because I wouldn't book any cruise until I can board without all the health restrictions now in place for Covid. So it may be another full year, for goodness sakes.

I'm adrift to nowhere.

Two new Endeavor itineraries, September 5, 10 days, and September 15, 13 days, replacing two itineraries of the same dates and lengths ... and priced just the same.

... new itineraries through Spring 2024 for all ships except Grandeur. Web pages are not available, and so I have no fares yet.

There were several new cities:
Eastport, Maine
Fernandina Beach, Florida (Amelia Island-ish)
Puerto Banus, Spain
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (new country for me too)
and Gili Mas, Indonesia

There are several gaps in the schedule:
Explorer, May 22, 2023, 16 days (Vancouver to Seward)
Navigator, March 23, 2023, 5 days (Miami)
Navigator, September 9, 2023, 10 days (Barcelona)
Voyager, May 8, 2023, 6 days (Athens)
Voyager, June 3, 2023, 12 days (Athens)

So ... no one is going to be saying see you later to Navigator anytime soon.

The interim checks tend to be just status changes.

Oceania finished first, as usual (because I only track two ships there), and there were 69 (nice) status changes. 41 status changes went from unavailable to available, and 28 from available to unavailable. So that's a net of at least * 13 cancelled cruises in one week.

Regent had 160 status changes; 110 to available, only 50 to unavailable.

Crystal went the other way with 55 changes; 18 to available and 37 to unavailable.

=======

* Ballpark since there are also cancellations and new bookings in already available categories. However, this is against the trend of the last several months where people are booking or using their future cruise credit, so I think telling.

♬  Database.
I've got the cutest little database.
No spreadsheet could ever take its place.
In my workspace,
We embrace.
It's so fast and it's so pretty,
Like all the girls from New York City.

I  like to keep it current just in case.
And it hardly even takes up any space.
Booking is a rat race,
So I interface.
With data that's sweet and so sensational,
Because it's also so relational.

I've got the cutest database.
Always before I book,
It always pays to look,
At my cute little database!

I don't know that I can draw any conclusions about the new fares. They haven't been subject to quarterly fare-creeps yet, which usually makes them dishy. But the averages in 2023 are all higher than the averages overall. (Except for Mariner because World Cruises are a bargain per day.) I'm not ready to book yet anyway, but if there was a deal with low deposits in the future, it might be a good idea to lock that in.

I know a lot of folks don't like the cruise descriptions, but I live for them. The best of the new batch:

Awesome job, Regent description person!

* Between us, would Beers and Bears be better?
** Maybe make both plural or both singular?

Removed trips from November 26, 2021 and April 16, 2022.

I removed them rather than comment out because the old trips will just be clutter when new itineraries are announced. I didn't do that - yet - for Serenity - because the trips that are likely to be cancelled are still on the web site. (They really shouldn't have trips on the web site that can't be booked!)

New trip:

I removed the canceled cruises both before and after, and added some gaps, both before and after, which I assume will be replaced with new trips at some point.

I think it's odd that they only came up with the one new nine-night cruise today. (Only $1555 per day for an S7 - if you can get the only one.)

2022 serenity world cruises

These itineraries, through April 16, have finally been removed from the Crystal web site.

They are replaced, for now, by a 100 day gap, from January 5, Miami through April 16, Istanbul.

I also changed some upcoming Oceania itineraries to replace Venice with Trieste, and Monte Carlo with Nice. Not sure why Regent has yet to do the same.

Don't look now, but the October 16 segment, and all its extended itineraries, just went all "wait-list."

So what they did was break up a 24 day itinerary into three 8 day itineraries, starting from here:
