where were you on the first earth day

Post: # 2911Post drib »

My high school gave us the day off to get in touch with our ecological selves. So my friends and I took public transportation to Flushing, New York - Shea Stadium, Padres vs Mets.

It turned out to be a significant game - Tom Seaver had 19 strikeouts, including the last ten in a row, for a 2-1 M - E - T - S, Mets, victory.

Oh, this is cool:

And I don't recall that anyone tracked pitch counts back then, but it says Seaver threw 136 pitches in the game.

I do recall that Al Ferrara struck out to end the game. He hit a homerun in the second inning, so it was an exciting last at bat. And because he was a former Dodger, I'm sure I was rooting for him - I never did like the home teams, Mets nor Yankees.
