This is the Title Part IV

Post: # 3413Post drib »

I don't like the really long threads, so I locked Part III. (As someone said recently, anything after page five of anything is crap.)

Let us pause briefly to remember two characters who were ruthlessly struck down by CFC this week:

Winthrop_Paroo and Captain Peacoat.

I can't really say that I'm a fan of Winthrop Paroo, the CFC character, not the character in the play and film. I will point out, though, that Ron Howard, who played Winthrop in the Music Man movie, and is used for that CFC profile, has something in common with Schnorrer of the Seas, who posted a parody of "High Hopes" on CFC to begin the weekend. The thing in common was that Eddie Hodges, who sang High Hopes with Frank Sinatra in the 1959 film "A Hole in the Head," played Winthrop on Broadway.

I should edit that last paragraph, but I'm not going to.

I was a fan of Captain Peacoat, though, who was banned a virgin. He was created inflight on the friendly skies, which I like about him. And his profile image is from a fashion ad. He may be resurrected, either the name or the avatar, by some future CFC character.

A & K

Post: # 3414Post drib »

I'm not going to waste any new characters in the Crystal Forum on CFC ... not until I'm above 100 again, anyway. (So, soon!)

But I will point out here that I think many of the Crystal solo and no balcony cruisers are going to be disappointed by the A & K version of Crystal. A & K is tailored for travelers who don't mind spending a lot to get a little. (Their tours tend to be shorter than Tauck, for example, but more expensive.) They may appeal to the Crystal Penthouse cruisers, and they may appeal to A & K travelers who want to try an ocean ship. But I don't expect to find any bargains on A & K.

That said, I think they are an excellent product. My only experience was a land tour, in Israel, in 2014. I paid as much, for two people, as I would have paid for a two week Crystal cruise. But the land tour was only seven days. Everything was first class, though. But it needed an "at sea" day.

The Bistro- Off topic and fun posts!

KenzSailing wrote:The following is not a criticism of any sort, just a note of genuine puzzlement.

Crystal appears to be recovering from a near death experience. It's still in ICU and will be there for a while.

So why are so many people who never or rarely posted to this board when Crystal was a going concern posting to this board now? I mean, is it a "can't look away from the accident on the highway" sort of phenomenon?

I'm sincerely curious.

PS: A&K bring back the trash can doilies!
Keith1010 wrote: Some people get pleasure from catastrophic events rather than when things are steady and going well.

By the way one of my favorites was the time there was some mention of animals and all of a sudden we had many posters with animal member names positing.

This made me wonder how do people find these threads for cruise lines they don't sail.

Do they check out each board every day? Or do a search on the entire site? Maybe the latter.

Maybe I should do a search on the glass is half full and see what comes up.
What the Fuck? You're discussing different things. Kenz is talking about the new posters who want to sail on Crystal but are now bringing up all the old, known, flaws of the ocean ships and the cruise line. Keith is talking about the Punky-era posters, who were uniformly pro-Crystal, and concurrently, were also pro-free speech. *

Two other points that I'll throw out there about the new A&K Crystal.
  1. Could the new Crystal have something in common with the resurrected pets from Stephen King's" Pet Sematary"? (That is, that there is something a little off about them.)
  2. Is there really such a thing as The Crystal Curse?
======

* I'm pretty sure that none of the new posters referenced here are drib. (But they do make a lot of drib-ish points!) Also, drib, was not anti-Crystal, and concurrently, he was pro-free speech. They are not mutually exclusive concepts.

Seabourn recognizes Crystal Society Milestone levels

Post: # 3422Post drib »

To all former Crystal Cruises guests who are now feeling adrift...

No, this doesn't belong in the dfc adrift lounge!

Page 3 ...
lincslady wrote:Just look at the Seabourn site to see the general reaction - and I am sure that loyal Crystal customers would feel the same.

Also spot the possible reasoning behind it which has been mentioned.
KenzSailing wrote:I disagree. When I first saw this raised as a question, I wondered why it could possibly be an issue. So I took your suggestion and checked out the Seabourn board.

First, as we know, CCers represent a handful of any line's cruisers.

Second, there's a handful (of a handful) of strong responders.

Third, their complaints seem to boil down to:
  • laundry turnaround times will increase and
  • "I thought I was your best friend"
As to your point about possible reasoning, yes it does seem an underlying factor (maybe the main one) is unease over the potential sale rumors.
Zele wrote:I submitted my information on the Thursday and had a reply on the Saturday with the good news that my wife and I were now Diamond Members of Seabourn.

Will the new Crystal Cruises company do the same and honour previous Crystal voyage credits?

purpleally wrote:My observation was that Crystal people whined more than Seabourn. Could not let go of crystal And calling themselves “refugees “. May I suggest they spend a week in Ukraine rather than sail Seabourn
Well now - that last post by purpleally, and one other that I skipped over so that I could go back and get context, is now gone for eternity.
KenzSailing wrote:Look, I know this is virtually the oxygen of Cruise Critic, but this whole topic strikes me as especially "much ado..."

Laundry turnaround times? Really?
PaulMCO wrote:Yes and internet congestion??? If I need to do streaming will pay the $200 and purchase the package.

The perks are not worth crowing about.
The real perks are the free cruises.
For this everyone has to qualify the old fashion way.

Did Bill Sheepspeare post bash? Was Benedick being a dick to Beatrice? You decide. Here's a more complete exchange between Benedick and Beatrice:

Benedick
Then is courtesy a turncoat. But it is certain I am loved of all ladies, only you excepted: and I would I could find in my heart that I had not a hard heart; for, truly, I love none.

Beatrice
A dear happiness to women: they would else have been troubled with a pernicious suitor. I thank God and my cold blood, I am of your humour for that: I had rather hear my dog bark at a crow than a man swear he loves me.

Benedick
God keep your ladyship still in that mind! so some gentleman or other shall 'scape a predestinate scratched face.

Beatrice
Scratching could not make it worse, an 'twere such a face as yours were.

Benedick
Well, you are a rare parrot-teacher.

Beatrice
A bird of my tongue is better than a beast of yours.

Benedick
I would my horse had the speed of your tongue, and so good a continuer. But keep your way, i' God's name; I have done.

Beatrice
You always end with a jade's trick: I know you of old.
KenzSailing wrote:Beatrice: You always end with a jade's trick. I know you of old.

That was fun. Maybe now we can get back to cruising

Whats with the Oceania roll calls?
